Hello Everyone,

In order to connect the new building on Myrtle to the local power source, the ASU facilities team needs to shut down power to our building. The scheduled date is during spring break on Saturday, March 9th, which will affect lights and plug in electric power for 1 day only. Dr. Gengchen Mai is an Assistant Professor (since Aug. 1st 2022) at the Department of Geography at UGA, and a Graduate Program Faculty of UGA School of Computing and UGA AI Institute. He got his Ph.D. degree in GIScience from the Department of Geography, UC Santa Barbara in 2021, under the guidance of Prof. Krzysztof Janowicz. Before he came to UGA, he was a Postdoc at Stanford AI Lab, Department of Computer Science, Stanford University, working with Prof. Stefano Ermon. Dr. Hui (Henry) Luan is an Assistant Professor in Spatial Data Science and Spatial Epidemiology in the Department of Geography, University of Oregon. He received his PhD degree in Planning from University of Waterloo, Canada, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in GIS from Wuhan University, China.

Dr. Luan applies and develops Bayesian spatiotemporal statistical models to investigate how health phenomena vary over space, time, and race/ethnicity, and how socioeconomic, demographic, physical, and built environmental factors contribute to these variations. First, if you have not yet used your Opportunity Funds for the last year, you still have time to submit the request. Each of you has $400 available each year for professional development and you have until June 30 to use the funds. I know many of you use these funds for traveling to conferences, but you also can use them for AICP prep materials, online courses (i.e. Coursera or the like), software, or business cards as a few examples.

With the planning career event coming up later this month and many of you starting your search for internships and full-time positions, I wanted to let you know about an option for ordering business cards through the university. There is a charge ($25 for 50 cards and $30 for 125 cards for example), but you can use your MUEP Opportunity Funds to cover that expense.
