Hello Stuart,

My name is Patrick and I’m looking to join a HAM Radio club as I’m new to this and this is quite the rabbit hole I’m heading down and really need some guidance.

I’m already preparing for the Tech License and have a couple of Hand Held radios but looking for bigger and better once I get a handle on some of this.

Hi David,

The club has a box of QSL cards at its duty station and it can at least
be added to that. I'm neither a student nor in AZ anymore so perhaps a
current club member could receive it and/or respond. (I haven't kept up
with current membership so don't know if any current members are on this

Hi James,

They have a FT991, W6PQL KW LDMOS amplifier and 4x 12 element array. The first QSO’s were from my shack as they have yet to install their own antennas.

EME is so much fun, especially when the HF bands are dead! I do fine with 300W.

My opinion... When someone offers to give something freely, take it. If not used, perhaps the club could then sell the equipment to raise funds for repairs or upgrades. At the very least, you can look to see how far we’ve come from needed to load and balance our tunes, and wait for the crystals and tubes to be warmed up enough to stop our frequency from drifting... 😊

Hi Folks,

Stuart Lindsay here, faculty adviser. As you probably know, we have a damaged antenna at our station. In addition, Denis, W6EW has offered us a StepIR all-band antenna, a $3,000 piece of equipment. It needs some work and testing, so I don't propose replacing the existing antenna right away. However, I am hoping some of you (especially folks with MUSCLE) would be up for two tower lowering parties, one at Denis's location in Mesa (near Gilbert Road) and the other at our shack (at the Community Services building, North of campus). I could organize this for any weekend

Hello,

Just saw a short article titled "Strategies for Reviving a College Radio
Club", by SueAnne Griffith, KK4UWV, in the August 2017 QST (p. 75). You
can see it listed in the table of contents here:

http://www.arrl.org/files/file/QST/This%20Month%20in%20QST/August2017/ToC.pdf

As it is copyrighted material, I can't share the text of the article.
Not sure if ASU students have access to QST via ASU's library (a quick
search makes me think not). ARRL members should have access to a
digital copy (see http://www.arrl.org/qst).

I am the faculty rep for the club. Just to let you know, the club does have a permanent station, tower and antennas. The alum issue in student societies has been a long standing issue. I am trying to deal with it for another society I am involved in. Your e-mail is a reminder to me to find the right person to talk to about these issues. Let $B!G (Bs see what I can do.

I have emailed this list and the president three times over the last six
months with no reply. Perhaps part of the problem with membership could be
improved if there were a way to communicate with the club.

Gerald,

Thanks for sharing your comments! To clarify, Amateur Radio Society currently receives support from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering in terms of funding, space, advising, resources, promotion, a web site, connecting with K-12 outreach opportunities and more. All Fulton Student Organizations are required to submit a membership of at least 10 members in order to maintain their Fulton Student Organization status. ARS would remain a general ASU student organization if the list was smaller. ARS is also welcome to apply for funding through Undergraduate Student Government. Our office was reaching out to ensure that the submitted list

Greetings Fulton Student Organization Officers!

Thank you all for taking an active part in developing and growing your Fulton student club and organization. As I am sure you are aware, being a part of clubs, especially ones that give back to the community, will develop leadership skills that you can carry with you throughout your lifetime. One of the ways that you can give back and advance your skills is to develop a plan to help connect with K-12 students and earn Dean's Funding Points. Hi Professor Lindsay,

I think an event on cave radio communications would be great to have early

Congratulations Cameron! I think the CW you hear is the repeater sending its call sign. You can try keying up a repeater and saying 'KI7DOI monitoring'. Anyone else monitoring the repeater may choose to reply. Be sure it's an open repeater and that you are accessing with the right audio tone. You can look up the info in the ARRL repeater book or website.

Don't be afraid of finding a popular repeater (like 147.360) and saying
"This is KI7DOI, is anyone on frequency for a radio check?".

I was in touch and started working with ASUPD on the matter of ham radio in the ASU EOC. In the end it died due to the requirement that in order to be in the EOC during an active event, you had to have clearance that required submitting to a background check. We (Me and the ASUPD officer I was working with.) did not feel that members of the club as a whole would be

Hello all,

Greetings from the University of Arizona Amateur Radio Club, K7UAZ!

Some of our members down here would like to see some on-air contacts
between the three state University clubs (K7NAU, W7ASU, K7UAZ), and I think
that would be a fun club activity. Also, coming up during the third week of
October is the ARRL School Club Roundup

clubs to get on the air. We're planning to be active, and would invite your
club to participate as well!

Hello Mathias,

I am a former member/student/officer of the W7ASU club (now in Washington
state). Though I do not want to speak for the current W7ASU club, I am not
sure if there are any current active members. I noticed that the webpage
for the club went down this past school year, likely because there weren't
any members to keep the site registered with the university.

Welcome back W7ASU members!

Apologies for the late start this semester. Due to some turnover in
students and staff, the club has been dormant lately. We'd like to
remedy this situation and make W7ASU radio active once again.

As a reminder, the club has a nice ham shack and plenty of working radio
equipment (just received another donation of equipment that looks to be
in excellent condition, in fact). What we need now are some leaders to
organize and run the club.

W7ASU members,

Just a reminder that we still need volunteers to be club officers. So
far only one person has expressed interest. As a reminder, club
officers must be current ASU students.

The club has also lost one of its co-advisors, so if you are an ASU
faculty or staff member and interested in amateur radio, please consider
volunteering for this position.

Hi All,

There is a free Software Defined Radio seminar being given by Arrow
Electronics on the BeRadio SDR. The seminar is on Wednesday, January
16th down near the airport. It is free, but you do have to sign up in advance.

It is geared towards the electronics engineer that would like to
learn more about FPGAs and SDR. It presumes some knowledge of FPGAs
and Verilog code, and walks you through the hardware and firmware of
a stand-alone MW radio.

But, if you haven't noticed, all messages from the mailing list always

Hi, everyone:

I'm going to have to delay officer elections, as nobody sent in a
request to be added to the ballot. To be frank, the club is in
jeopardy. If we cannot get three officers, the possibility exists
that the club will be forced to disband, and what that means for our
radio shack and our equipment, I do not know, but I expect it to be
bad. PLEASE, if you have any interest in amateur radio at all

Hi, everyone:

I'm going to have to delay officer elections, as nobody sent in a request to be added to the ballot. To be frank, the club is in jeopardy. If we cannot get three officers, the possibility exists that the club will be forced to disband, and what that means for our

We are approaching that time of year where officers for the ASU
Amateur Radio Society are chosen. If you are a student at ASU, you
are eligible to run for office. If you are interested, please send me
an email conveying your interest at [log in to unmask] with the
subject "ASUARS candidate", including your name and a short
introduction about yourself and ideas you have to sustain and grow the
club. Please have these in to me by April 9th, 2012 at 5pm MST. I
will hold elections soon after that point, and you can expect to see
the ballot go out

Hi there, My name is Taylor and I am a Marketing student at Arizona State University. I am completing a project on ham radios and how users relate to this activity. I am looking to interview two individuals for a little under half an hour. The interviews will consist of just general information regarding the ham radio experience, such as how the individual got involved, what it is, specific experiences, etc. If you are available and willing to be interviewed, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, is there anyway you can pass this message on to your members or

Hi everyone,

The club has a nice antenna for 2 and 0.7 meter operation in
the club room at the CSB right now. The tower outside can easily
accommodate this addition.
I would like to get an idea of when volunteers would be
available to complete the first phase of this project. As the tower
would be blocking a small part of the parking lot while it is lowered,
this would be best done over a weekend. If you are interested in
helping, please rank the weekends below in order of preference:
1=best, 5=worst. Alternatively, just write Yes, No or

Hello, everyone!

Sorry for the short notice, but I will be at the shack from about 1800
local time (+/- a few minutes depending on the train), to about 2000
tonight. I am going to try to have some shack hours every week on
Wednesday evenings as my workload has eased up a bit. So, if you
want to operate, just hang out and say hi, or talk about any ideas you
might have, please stop by!

Hello, everyone:

Just a reminder to sign up for times you are available to operate,
log, or just see what the School Club Roundup is all about. Go here
http://doodle.com/7qc8pvfq4566h74k if you haven't done so and put your
times in. I will be putting some times in shortly, subject to change
so I can overlap with people who sign up, since the radio shack is
normally locked.
